Rugby!
"On a crisp fall day in 1823, a frustrated William Webb Ellis picked up a soccer ball in his hands and ran with it. To this day, backs throughout the world hail this moment as the birth of rugby. Forwards, however, know that the game was not really invented until 1.5 seconds later, when Roland Dimrumple drove a squealing Mr. Ellis' face into the turf, kicked him in the solar plexus and told him to 'keep his sodding hands off the ball.' What is Rugby?
  • Rugby is a full contact competition between two teams that have 15 players on the field.
  • Players are typically broken up into two groups:
    1. Forwards - much like lineman and linebackers in American football, hardworking backbone of the team
    2. Backs - much like wide receivers and running backs in American football, the attention-grabbing, glorying hounds we all despise. Yes that is them!
  • The game is broken up into two 40 minute halves with continuous play. The team with the highest score at the end is the victor.
  • There are two ways to earn points: tries and goals. Tries and are worth five points. To achieve a Try you must place the ball on the ground behind the Try Line. After which a goal is kicked worth two points. Other means of scoring are by a dropped goal worth three points and a penalty goal also worth three points.
  • Movement of the ball in play has to be done through lateral passes, handoffs, and forwards kicks. Forward throws are not permitted.
